LED Screen for Commercial Buildings and Media Facades

Turn a building exterior into a screen people see from across the street. Here is the brightness, weatherproofing and pixel pitch a commercial facade needs, how to size it for the viewing distance, and a factory-direct quote.

Outdoor LED screen mounted on a commercial building facade

Building facade that blends in instead of standing out? A high-brightness LED media facade turns the building itself into an advertising and branding asset — readable from the street, vivid in full sun, revenue-generating for landlords and advertisers. Get the brightness or IP rating wrong and it washes out by day or fails in the first storm.

Building-grade outdoor LED media facades from $1,200–$2,500/m² factory-direct — high-brightness, IP65+, sized to your facade. EKINTRY specs the right configuration for your building height, viewing distance and local environment. Send facade dimensions for a quote.

Who custom screens are for

  • Property owners and developers adding a media facade.
  • Retail and mixed-use buildings wanting exterior advertising.
  • Hotels, malls and corporate HQs branding the building.
  • Out-of-home media operators monetising a wall.

What a building facade screen needs

A screen on a building exterior is the most demanding install there is — it faces the sun, the weather and viewers far below or across the road. The non-negotiables:

  • High brightness (≈5,000–8,000 nits) so it stays readable in direct daylight.
  • IP65-rated, weatherproof cabinets front and rear for rain, dust and UV.
  • Front or rear service access matched to how the facade is reached.
  • High refresh (3,840 Hz) so it looks clean on camera and in photos.
  • Structural mounting to the building frame, engineered for wind load.

Pixel pitch by viewing distance

On a building, viewers are usually far away, so a coarser pitch is both fine and far cheaper. The rough rule is about 1 m of viewing distance per 1 mm of pitch — match the pitch to the closest person who needs a sharp image, not the budget.

Sizing the screen to the facade

Because the screen is built from whole cabinets, it is sized to the area of wall you want to cover and the distance people view it from. A facade seen from across a wide street or plaza needs to be physically large to read; a screen over an entrance seen from the pavement can be smaller and finer.

Budget guide

There is no single price — it depends on area, pixel pitch, brightness, structure and install — but these levels give a realistic frame for a commercial-building screen.

Mounting, power and maintenance

A facade screen is fixed to the building structure, so the steelwork, power supply and service access are planned with the install. We supply the screen with mounting structure, a control system and spare modules, plus install documents and remote setup support so a local crew can complete the fit-out.

Typical case: exterior screen on a retail building

Client type Mixed-use retail building owner
Application Exterior advertising on the building facade
Viewing Pedestrians and traffic across a busy street
Key requirement Sunlight-readable, weatherproof, low long-term maintenance
EKINTRY recommendation P6 IP65 outdoor screen at ~6,000 nits, fixed to the facade with engineered mounting and spare modules

Why this solution worked: A finer indoor-style pitch would have wasted money no one could see from the street, and a non-IP cabinet would have failed in the weather. A P6 IP65 screen at high brightness stayed readable in daylight, survived the elements and kept maintenance trips to a minimum.

Frequently Asked Questions

How bright does an LED screen on a building need to be?

For an outdoor facade, roughly 5,000–8,000 nits so it stays readable in direct sunlight. An atrium or covered facade can be lower. We match brightness to where the screen faces.

What pixel pitch should a building facade screen be?

It follows viewing distance — about 1 m per 1 mm of pitch. Most building facades use P6 to P10 because viewers are far away, which is also far more cost-effective than a fine indoor pitch.

Is the screen weatherproof?

Yes — exterior building screens use IP65-rated cabinets, sealed front and rear against rain, dust and UV, and are built for long outdoor service.

How is the screen mounted to the building?

It is fixed to the building structure with engineered steelwork rated for wind load. We supply the mounting structure and install documents, and a local crew completes the fit with our remote support.

Can you build it to the exact size of our facade?

Yes — the screen is assembled from whole cabinets, so we build it to the width and height of the wall area you want to cover. Send the dimensions or a photo and we advise the nearest buildable size.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes — worldwide, crated in reinforced wooden cases with spares and tools, plus install documents and remote setup support.
